This week, Sara and Kyle are joined by Jessie Singer, Senior Editor at Transportation Alternatives, New York City’s largest advocacy organization working to promote biking, walking, and public transit use. Using her background as an investigative reporter, Jessie began the #CrashNotAccident campaign to begin a pubic dialogue about how people talk, experience, and act related to traffic collisions and crashes, showcasing the reality that traffic fatalities are entirely preventable. Her side project, ACCIDENT, continues to scour national media stories to demonstrate our prolific, and rather absurd, use of the word accident ( www.tinyletter.com/accident ). Jessie is also one of the founders of the NYC Ghost Bike Project, an organization that draws attention to an unsafe street through the installation of a bicycle memorial, painted white, at the location a person riding a bike has been killed. The Bike Nerds Podcast is sponsored by Saris Cycling Group. Visit www.sarisparking.com for a full array of bicycle parking and infrastructure products.
